The original post is from Sephen Gordon at Libertarian Opportunities. Interesting concept.

(I am passing this on from a message on another of my e-mail lists. It seemed fit with the general purpose of this e-mail group.)
Libertarians have been reading about and discussing the Free-State Project with enthusiasm and with high hopes. The idea is powerful and unique enough to succeed far beyond expectations! We are therefore also very proud to announce a Free-Zone in Alabama!
Mr. Johnson (a party member) recently won a ruling from Jefferson County Probate Judge Bolin that provided him with the legal authority
to designate the area to have borders, and to function as a "defacto-government," albeit an entirely voluntary one. The idea of a voluntary government should be very appealing to those of a Libertarian or small government bent.
Robert Johnson, Jr., a civic activist, has formed a legal entity in the Western Heights area of Jefferson County, Alabama called a
cooperative district. It is a legal entity similar to a municipality.
The wonderful thing about this "cooperative district" is that Mr. Johnson wants Libertarian principles to be the guiding forces behind
the uplifting of this blighted and ignored community. This unincorporated Western/Bessemer cutoff area (Birmingham area) has been suffering from a lack of fundamental services. Mr. Johnson
proposes to fill this area with voluntary services such as telecommunications, improved sanitation, fire department, police department, and emergency medical services. The other additional plans include a business incubator project which will encourage new jobs and new small businesses in order to alleviate poverty in the area.
Mr. Johnson is currently seeking people interested in investing in any of these areas. If you are interested in more information or
would like to invest in this project, please contact Mr. Johnson at: 205-835-0177.
